Dear Friends,
Although the past year has been one of the most unusual and challenging in our organization’s history, filled with social isolation, uncertainty, and so many Zoom meetings, we at the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory are looking to the future and are hopeful that we will soon be reunited with our volunteers and supporters and can offer in person programming again.
While the pandemic disrupted many of our normal activities, it also inspired us to make some fundamental structural and programmatic changes that have greatly improved our work and increased our impact. As SFBBO gears up to celebrate our 40th Anniversary this fall, the organization is in a remarkably strong position thanks to the amazing generosity of our many donors and the ingenuity of our staff.

Please support bird conservation by making a donation to our Spring Appeal today and help us raise $20,000 by June 30!
2021 is already off to a strong start, with our staff successfully obtaining numerous small grants in support of our research and educational work. We are continuing our efforts to develop more curricula and STEM opportunities for both K-12 students and undergraduate students with our partners at Marshmallow Minds and local colleges and universities. This year we will be able to provide both in person and remote science experiences, depending on the public health environment. In the past year, donors have helped us further increase access to conservation education by funding scholarships to our workshops and financial support for our internships; please join their efforts and contribute to our Spring Appeal today!
Our board and staff are currently busy preparing for our 40th Anniversary celebrations later this year, with the hope that at least some of our events can be in person. As we get closer to our anniversary, it’s wonderful to think about how much SFBBO has grown, while staying true to our roots of community centered bird conservation. Looking forward, we are excited to bring volunteers back to the field again and conduct in person environmental education, while retaining the innovations from the last year, such as our online workshops and Birdy Hours. As our supporter, you have helped us every step in this journey and continue to inspire us to come up with better ways to help birds and their habitats.

Please make a gift today to support SFBBO and, if possible, increase your impact by participating in your company’s matching gift program!
It’s been a year since I’ve seen any of you, but I’d like to know how you all are doing. I think of you, our supporters and volunteers, regularly, and can’t wait until we can welcome you back to our field projects and office again. Please, feel free to email me or send SFBBO a message on social media so we can stay connected before we can physically connect. What do you look forward to most for 2021? Thank you again for your continued support; we couldn’t have made it the last 40 years without people like you!
Sincerely,
