Kids Bird Art Contest
Each year, we invite kids ages 3-17 to submit artwork for our Kids Bird Art Contest! The contest encourages kids to observe birds in nature and create a piece of artwork that reflects their experience and what they noticed about the bird. Check out the details for our 2023 contest!
Contest Categories: Winners will be selected in three age categories: ages 3-7 years, 8-11 years, and 12-17 years. Winners will be contacted and prizes will be awarded at the SFBBO Annual Meeting on November 4th. Winners are invited, but attendance is not required. Contest Dates: Submissions are due on October 13, 2023 and are accepted on a rolling basis. Early submissions are encouraged! 2023 Entry Guidelines: - Submissions must depict bird(s) that the artist has observed in the wild. We encourage artists to draw features of the surrounding habitat they saw the bird in. - Submission must include a written component. In addition to sharing the artist's experience with the bird, this year we want the artist to do research about threats the bird faces and share how people can help them. This written component should be on same page as the artwork. We also encourage artists to identify the common name of the bird (for example, Western Bluebird or California Scrub Jay) to the best of their ability. - Submissions must be an original (not copied, traced, duplicated from any existing art/photo, or AI-generated). The artist can work off of a self-taken photograph. The artwork must be completed by the artist with no or minimal adult assistance. Adult help is allowed for the 3-7 age group only (for example, to help with the written component if the child is unable to write). - Submission must be an original work created in traditional media (pencil, crayon, watercolor, marker, etc.). Please NO prints, copies, or digital artwork. - Submission must be created on 8 ½ in x 11 inch paper backing or submitted as a PDF, JPG, or PNG with a maximum 10 MB file size. - One entry per individual. How To Enter: Register here. After registering, you will receive a link to submit a scan or photo of your artwork online. Entries may appear on SFBBO's website, social media, and events. Mail-in or drop-off submissions: Write the artist name, age, hometown, and the artist and/or parent/guardian email on the back of the artwork. Drop off or mail entries to 524 Valley Way, Milpitas, CA 95035. All entries become the property of SFBBO and will not be mailed back. How to Peer-to-Peer Fundraise with Artwork: You can also use your Kids Bird Art Contest artwork to help raise money for SFBBO. Consider creating a fundraiser on your Facebook page using your Kids Bird Art Contest entry and asking people to donate a certain amount to SFBBO for each "like" your artwork receives. We can also create a page for you on our website where you can showcase your artwork and ask for donations to support bird conservation. Questions: Please write to Sirena Lao at slao@sfbbo.org with questions. Would you like to support the Kids Bird Art Contest? You can make a donation or contact us if you'd like to donate prizes for the winners. Check out our Wingbeat blog posts highlighting previous Kids Bird Art Contest winners: 2023 | 2022 | 2021 |
