2020 California Fall Challenge
At the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory, we are proud of how we have transitioned our educational outreach programs to the virtual world. Our Birdy Hour speaker series, which we kicked off in March, has attracted an average of 170 registrants for each of our 14 seminars and our social media programs like #AskAScientist have been innovative and well-received. But we can't ignore the fact that these are difficult times for all non-profits, especially science-based organizations, so this fundraising period is especially important for us.
From Sept. 17 through Oct. 18, we aim to raise $33,000 during our 2020 California Fall Challenge to support these and other outreach programs, as well some of our longest-running (almost 40 years!) research programs, including our bird banding study at the Coyote Creek Field Station and our colonial waterbird nest monitoring research. For a donation of $60 or more to our 2020 California Fall Challenge, you can receive our 2020 Fall Challenge T-Shirt! Donations can be made by clicking here. The beautiful line art of a Forster's Tern was designed by Kitty O'Neil using Dee Vee's winning photo in the "Strike a Pose" category of our Fall Challenge Bird Photo Big Day. The value of the fair trade and ethically sourced t-shirt ($15) is not tax deductible. We invite you to give generously to our Fall Challenge campaign to help us continue to protect the birds and their habitats in the Bay Area. Thank you, The SFBBO Team and the Birds of the Bay Area |

Not yet a member? Become a Member. Membership is open to everyone and dues are only $40 a year! As a member you will receive unique opportunities to participate in field research as community scientists, special invitations to member-only events, and that great feeling of knowing that you are actively supporting conservation of birds and their habitats in the San Francisco Bay region! Please contact outreach@sfbbo.org for information. |
Dr. Max Tarjan, SFBBO's Waterbird Program Director, talks about how our donor-supported colonial waterbird research has been critical to conserving essential habitats and informing land management by allowing scientists to understand and track waterbird populations in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1982. See the results of your donations by interacting with the breeding waterbird colonies map which shows the locations of 10 waterbird species colonies SFBBO has been monitoring since 1982, then come back and donate to the organization. |
