Birding Workshops with Alvaro
Jaramillo
For the Birder and
Naturalist in the Winter and Spring 2007
|
GULLS, WATERFOWL,
and SHOREBIRDS AND MIGRATION workshops will be in January, February, and
April at the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge in
Alviso, CA. These workshops will incorporate ecology, evolutionary
biology, behavioral ecology, and natural history to complement bird
identification information taught in class. There will be two days of
instruction and a weekend all-day fieldtrip. Cost per workshop is $150; space is limited
to 15 people. More information and registration form are available online or from Bird Observatory

Coyote Creek
Field Station Work Day, Dec. 2 & 3, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
If you enjoy spending time
outside with other people while observing wildlife around, then come help
out at the work day! Activities include: clipping vegetation along mist-net
paths, shifting orientation of nets, repairing and replacing nets, and
repairing pallets used as boardwalks. Please contact Gina Barton,
gbarton*sfbbo.org, with your availability and activity preference.

the Bay Trail" at Palo Alto Baylands with Al Jaramillo, Dec. 9, 1 - 3
p.m.
Walk is full. Biologist Alvaro Jaramillo leads
a winter bird walk at the Palo Alto Baylands, which has long been a haven
for the Bay Area’s Clapper Rails.

|
Migration is over and our winterers have arrived and
are settling in. We had a winter capture of a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
on the 21st. This was a new bird that didn’t have a band on
it, and so was not the same bird that wintered at CCFS during 2003/2004
and 2004/2005.

The 10th Annual
California Fall Challenge Bird-a-thon culminated with the San Francisco
Bay Bird Observatory's 25th Anniversary celebration on October 29th at
the Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve. Top fundraiser Joelle Buffa chose
kayak trips for her prize while runner-up Lisa Myers snagged a new scope
and tripod.

The "Refugees" (Mike Mammoser, Mike Rogers, and Francis Toldi)
took home the Mewaldt Cup for Big Day competitive birding. For detailed
