Make conservation science happen in the Bay Area in the field…at the office...out at events...

Check out our list of volunteer opportunities. Whether you are interested in field research or outreach. The Bird Observatory needs you!

How to become a volunteer:

  1. Join us as a member. Volunteering is a benefit of membership. Membership is required to volunteer. Membership can mean access to areas closed to the public, as well as the great chances to work with our biologists and other volunteers.
  2. Fill out a Volunteer Application, including the Safety Policy and reference sheet, and send it to outreach@sfbbo.org. Once your application and membership dues are received, you will be contacted for a phone interview with our staff.

Please note that the volunteer process from receipt of applicaton through training may take several weeks to months. You may be placed on a waiting list if volunteer opportunities are currently filled.
