Bill Hepburn, our June Volunteer of the Month!

Celebrating Volunteer Bill Hepburn!

Bill Hepburn became a SFBBO member and volunteer in June 2004. While his early volunteer work included the tidy tasks of scanning bird banding data sheets and slides for Coyote Creek Field Station, as well as IT work for the Waterbird Program, we soon learned that Bill easily fulfilled one of the requirements of the Avian Disease Prevention Program: “Volunteers must not be afraid to get muddy and/or wet!” The surveys for this program involve collecting fish and bird carcasses by boat for the purposes of research and the prevention of the spread of botulism, certainly a job that provided plenty of opportunities to get soaked and dirty. Handy at the helm, Bill has been performing these surveys since 2007, sometimes weekly during July-November. Bill appreciates the fresh air and exercise provided by volunteering with SFBBO and enjoys the nice people at “the bird place”, as he affectionately calls our organization. Bill even donated his truck to SFBBO in 2009 for use as a field vehicle by our biologists. We thank Bill for his time, energy, and sense of humor!
