Join the Bird Observatory's birdathon, the California Fall Challenge!
This is our 11th annual California Fall Challenge! It is a classic "birdathon" event, much like a walk-a-thon. Participants gather pledges from friends, family and co-workers and then count the number of bird species they hear or see in a 24-hour period, within one California County any time between September 15 and October 14.
The California Fall Challenge is the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory's most important fundraiser. The money raised helps to fund the Bird Observatory's programs. The Fall Challenge supports the programs that apply science to the problems of saving birds and their habitats. It is almost entirely run by a team of dedicated volunteers, led this year by Board Member Lisa Myers. This year the challenge is to raise $50,000 and your support is vital to helping the Bird Observatory reach it's goal for 2007.
We have provided many fun and exciting ways you can participate or show your support.
Organized Trips: Sign up for one of our organized trips planned in several different California counties.
Team Neotropic: Support the next generation of birders and neotropical migrants.
Get a T-Shirt: Special California Fall Challenge T-Shirts have been designed for this Bird Observatory event.
Prizes: Fantastic prizes have been donated in support of your fundraising efforts.
Form Your Own Team You can put your own team together to go birding for the day. Just let us know the name of your team, the date you plan to bird and within which California County! Email fallchallenge@sfbbo.org or call Janet Hanson at 408-946-6548 x 18.
Support a Fundraiser
You may also support the Fall Challenge by sponsoring your favorite birder, board member or staff person. You can make your pledge of $.50, a $1 or even $5 per species. You can also donate a flat amount. Click here to donate now.
