Waterbird

The Waterbird Program tracks the health of the Baylands ecosystems by studying bird use of the varying Bay habitats, from salt ponds to slough channels. We conduct numerous projects on the use of salt ponds by waterbirds, the reproductive health of colonial waterbirds, and the nesting success of the threatened Western Snowy Plover.

Avian Disease Prevention From summer through fall, the Bird Observatory helps to prevent the spread of botulism by collecting dead, sick, and injured birds in South Bay sloughs for the Avian Disease Prevention Project.
