Walk Information

Walks are free for Bird Observatory members; a nonmember donation of $10 is requested. RSVP before 3 p.m. the Friday before the walk to the Outreach Specialist or call 408 946 6548. Space is limited to 15 - 20 people.

The walks occur once a month, usually starting at 8 a.m. and lasting about 2 - 3 hours. Participants should be able to walk continuously on relatively flat trails and paths for the duration of the trip. For all walks, please bring binoculars and wear comfortable walking shoes. You may also want to bring a spotting scope, sunscreen, a hat, a field guide, water, and a snack.

If you would like to bring children younger than 7 or have any questions about accessibility, please contact the Outreach Specialist to discuss options.

Rain Policy

If rain is forecasted for the day of walk, please check your e-mail after 10 p.m. the night before for possible cancellation notices from the trip leader. A voice message with a cancellation announcement will also be left on the SFBBO phone system after 10 p.m. In most cases, walks are not cancelled unless there will be a heavy downpour.

Accessibility

If you are interested in going on a Bird Observatory walk, but have accessibility concerns, please call us. We are happy to work with you and walk leaders to identify and plan an accessible route in locations where it is possible.
